Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: 2009

Nothing defines Thanksgiving like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. On November 26, 2009 at 9 a.m. the 83rd Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade began. The parade travels down Central Park West from 77th Street to Columbus Circle along Central Park South to 7th Avenue, down 7th Avenue to 42nd Street, along 42nd Street to 6th Avenue, down 6th Avenue to 34th Street and along 34th Street to Macy's Herald Square. Giant balloons, floats, marching bands and clowns with confetti brought smiles to thousands of revelers eager to catch a glimpse of a parade as steeped in Thanksgiving Day tradition as turkey and pumpkin pie. Thousands lined the streets of Manhattan for the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, while crowds gathered nationwide for parades in cities such as Detroit and Philadelphia. The parade is a tradition of the Thanksgiving holiday that Americans usually celebrate by joining with family for a turkey lunch or dinner. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City is a remarkable event.
